Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee [SGPC] has issued a stern warning against exploiting holy ethos of Gurbani, and the rich traditions of Sikhism by filmmakers and serial producers ‘solely for commercial gain.’
It has also been stated that such actions, which disregard the Sikh religious principles, wouldn’t be tolerated, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said. He stated that a serial scene depicting the Anand Karaj ceremony was filmed using a replica of Guru Granth Sahib, ‘which is a grave violation of Sikh maryada and traditions.’
He said that although the shooting of such a scene was halted due to the intervention of the sangat, the police administration should also take action. Dhami added that the filmmakers should exercise great care during shooting to ensure that Sikh principles and traditions are not violated for misrepresented.
He said the SGPC would prepare a report of the incident to take action against the persons responsible for hurting Sikh religious sentiments.
