The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) has issued an advisory to singer Diljit Dosanjh and the organizers of his upcoming show in Chandigarh on December 14. The advisory prohibits the performance of songs promoting alcohol, drugs, or violence, specifically naming Patiala Pegg, 5 Tara Theke, and Case.
The directive also applies to any variations or twisted versions of these songs. The CCPCR, led by Chairperson Shipra Bansal, acted upon a representation filed by Panditrao Dharenavar, an assistant professor of Sociology in Chandigarh. The advisory highlights concern that such songs negatively influence children of impressionable age.
The notice also includes a stipulation barring organizers from inviting children onto the stage during live performances where sound pressure exceeds 120 decibels, a level deemed harmful to children’s hearing. Additionally, the advisory mandates that alcohol not be served to individuals under 25 years of age, warning organisers of legal consequences under the Juvenile Justice Act and other applicable laws.
In a related complaint filed in November 2024, the District Child Welfare Officer of Telangana had also issued a notice against Dosanjh, citing similar concerns. While the singer complied by refraining from bringing children on stage, he altered the lyrics of the prohibited songs during a performance.
Panditrao Dharenavar has expressed confidence that Diljit Dosanjh will adhere to the CCPCR’s advisory in the interest of protecting children. The activist had previously raised similar issues against singer Karan Aujla, resulting in Aujla refraining from performing specific songs during a show on December 7, 2024
