Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, on Monday said that the upcoming memorial at Lohgarh in Yamunanagar will immortalize the indomitable courage and sacrifice of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji, while serving as a centre to showcase the glorious heritage of the Sikh community and Indian culture for generations to come.
Addressing a gathering as the Chief Guest on the occasion of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji’s birth anniversary, the Union Minister said the memorial will become a place of faith and inspiration not only for the people of Haryana but also for devotees from across the country and the world.
Highlighting Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s legacy, he said that after his victory over Sirhind, the great warrior established Lohgarh as his capital and brought relief to farmers by abolishing the feudal system. “Banda Singh Bahadur fought bravely against injustice and sacrificed his life for religion and justice. His sacrifice continues to inspire generations,” he added.
The event also saw the laying of the foundation stone for the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial and a state-of-the-art museum, marking the formal commencement of the project.
Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana and Public Health Engineering and PWD (B&R) Minister Ranbir Gangwa were also present and announced donations of ₹21 lakh each to the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Trust.
Welcoming the dignitaries, Director General of Information, Public Relations and Languages Department, K. Makarand Pandurang, said the memorial would stand as a symbol of the nation’s unwavering connection to its history, culture, and the heroic sacrifices of its martyrs.
The memorial will be constructed on approximately 20 acres of land provided by the Gram Panchayat of Bhagwanpur, and a grand statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur will be installed through a global design competition.
Among those present were former Cabinet Minister and Founder Trustee of the Trust Kanwar Pal Gurjar, former MP Sanjay Bhatia, Commissioner and Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department Dr. Amit Kumar Agrawal, and Ambala Division Commissioner Sanjeev Verma, along with other distinguished guests.
