Men who have been loitering around the city beautiful and passing lewd comments need to step back. This is a proud moment as one such man is given a good dose of punishment for calling a minor girl 'Sexy'.
Yep! A man was sentenced two years imprisonment for his 'Hey Sexy' remark to a 17 year old minor. The incident took place in our very own city beautiful, Chandigarh.
The case happened last year in September. It was September 4, 2017, when the convict teased the victim by calling her “Hey Sexy” when she was returning from her college in Sector 11. Lady judge Poonam R Joshi, who was hearing the case, took this applaud worthy decision.
The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 21,000 on Pankaj Singh (23), who however, was immediately bailed out as per provisions of law for imprisonment less than three years. Going back to the whole incident that took place, when Pankaj teased the victim saying “Hey Sexy", an argument broke out between the two and Pankaj slapped the girl at the spot. The victim called her brother but Pankaj thrashed him too.
Police later reached the spot and booked Pankaj under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 294 (obscene acts or words in public) of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. After this remarkable decision, seems like the district court is in no mood to leave these men who have been harassing woman in any way. This case and the recent Varnika Kundu case where Varnika, the daughter of an IAS, was stalked and harassed in her car while she was on her way back home. She barely escaped from being kidnapped by a the son of a political leader. These cases have proved that girls in Chandigarh know how to fight back and tackle these morons.
But the question arises - "When would the city be so safe that girls can freely walk around without being prey to lewd comments and stalking?"
Maybe decisions like these by the court would set the men right and they might not create nuisance in future.
Chandigarh, out of many Indian states, has been pretty safe for girls but instances like these give people a chance to point fingers at our city, which is shameful. Let's make our city the best in the world for both the genders and let peace prevail.
