Gurdas Maan's statement on a Canadian Radio show where he supported Amit Shah's idea of One Nation One Language, has not gone down well with the Punjabi community worldwide. After facing immense criticism over his abusive language to a protestor, Gurdas Maan has now attracted sharp protest by the Punjabi community living there.
Visuals of the protest are doing rounds on social media where the protesters are seen holding placards carrying slogans against Gurdas Maan, some calling him a betrayer of his mother tongue Punjabi.
According to reports, Gurdas Maan decided to stay inside the airport to save himself from facing the wrath. Now, fresh reports claim that the singer has canceled his show and the statement by Gurdas Maan that's being circulated reads:
"I was on the flight to Kolkata to perform at this event for Durga Puja when someone on board showed me this video of the venue where I was to perform. They have created a replica of The Golden Temple with people entering bare head and wearing shoes. I was really upset seeing this and decided to cancel my performance. From the Kolkata airport, I took the flight back, out of Kolkata. Even if it ruffles the organizers, I could not have done this as it's completely against my personal beliefs in the sanctity of religious places. I'm quite shocked at this violation."
For those who don't know, Gurdas Maan was supposed to perform at a Durga Pooja Pandal in Kolkata which was designed as the replica of Shri Harimandir Sahib.
