While Punjab has yet not recovered from the loss of Rajvir Jawanda, Punjabi actor and world’s first vegetarian bodybuilder, Varinder Singh Ghuman died of a heart attack in Amritsar. He had gone to Amritsar’s Fortis Hospital to undergo a minor operation for a bicep injury. Since it was a minor operation, he was supposed to return today. However, Ghuman suffered a cardiac arrest and died. He was 42, per reports.
Ghuman was a familiar figure in both the bodybuilding and entertainment worlds. His death has come as a shock to many who followed his journey from his early days as a champion bodybuilder to his later roles in film.
Ghuman was known to be the world’s first vegetarian professional bodybuilder, according to a report in The Times of India. He won the Mr India competition in 2009 and was the runner-up at Mr Asia, establishing himself early on as a prominent personality in Indian bodybuilding. In 2013, Ghuman’s career reached new heights when he was chosen by Arnold Schwarzenegger to represent his products in Asia.
Besides bodybuilding, Ghuman also made his mark in the film industry. He starred as the lead actor in the Punjabi film ‘Kabaddi Once Again’ in 2012 and made his Hindi film debut with ‘Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans’ in 2014. He continued to appear in Hindi films, including ‘Marjaavaan’ in 2019. It was followed by his stint in Salman Khan’s Tiger 3.
