To mark the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, Anandpur Sahib — the birthplace of the Khalsa — will see the development of a heritage street. Planned by Punjab’s tourism department, the project will enhance the main road to Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, inspired by Amritsar’s Heritage Street. Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Singh Walia confirmed most local shopkeepers have backed the plan, which aims to preserve the city’s spiritual essence with themed architecture and improved streetscape.
Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Singh Walia confirmed the initiative and praised the cooperation of local business owners. He stated, “Most of the shopkeepers along the Keshgarh Sahib route have agreed to the plan. Their support is vital in preserving the city’s historical essence while enhancing its visual and spiritual charm.”
He further added that the project will reflect Anandpur Sahib’s Sikh heritage through redesigned shop fronts, an upgraded streetscape, and a cohesive architectural style that captures the city’s distinct identity.
