Nakodar is one of those few places in India that has a huge following and many from Punjabi industry are amongst those who follow this dera.
In 2008, famous Punjabi singer Hans Raj Hans was elected as the head of this dera but after 8 years, in the year 2014, he quit saying that it is his personal decision and he will continue to work for the Dera but will relinquish all the administrative charges.
Though Hans gave the impression that he had decided to leave the 'Gaddi' (seat) because of his future association with the Sufi centre coming up in Gahira village on Jalandhar-Nakodar road at the famous Panj Peer Darbar, sources said he quit in the wake of the strong opposition to his continuance as 'Gaddi Nasheen' among certain factions of the Dera.
Now, after 4 years, he has been re-elected as the 'gaddi nasheen' of this dera and said that he is mere ‘sevadar’ of the seat and that the seat is a Sufi Darbar which has nothing to do with any religion in particular. He said the responsibility of the position is to spread the message of peace and love.
Every year, many Punjabi singers are seen performing at this mela and quite an amount is seen being showered on them throughout their performances.
