Debutante singer Sukhbir Gill, who is currently preparing for the release of his first Punjabi track under a freshly launched label Slay Records, has already shot for a Bollywood film and that too a Shyam Benegal directorial!
Talking about his acting debut and sharing more details about this project, Sukhbir stated, "It’s overwhelming! I have the same kind of feeling that I had when Shyam (Benegal) Sir had offered me the film on Punjab’s war heroes. I am blessed to have gotten a chance to work with him so early in my career. I am even more excited for my singing debut. Kanwarnihal Singh Gill and Gurlove Singh Ratol have shown their faith in me and I feel so motivated now. I am really looking forward to work with Slay Records. I would really like to experiment with genres and thankfully, Slay Records has given me the creative freedom to do that. I hope people will like the song; we will share the details soon.”
Bollywood actor Deepak Kalal was present at the launch.
Kanwarnihal Singh Gill and Gurlove Singh Ratol, founders of Slay Records, while interacting with the media fraternity, said, “We have seen how some really good artists do not get the right platform to showcase their talent. In fact, we have some very close acquaintances who have that spark, but all they need is somebody to trust them. Slay Records is that name which will provide a much-needed platform to all those who really deserve it. We promise to deliver entertaining content. That’s the reason why we have collaborated with Sukhbir Gill in our first project. We are just starting with the shoot of his song and will release it soon. We really hope that people will appreciate our work. We are also working on setting up India’s first music incubator on the same line as a startup incubator where young talent can have access to necessary tools to hone their talent and create amazing content. We are hopeful that the government will support us fully for this project."
Sukhbir Gill’s upcoming song is titled 'Next Level' and more details shall be revealed by the record label soon.
About his acting project, Sukhbir had shot for his role as Kartar Singh Sarabha in the year 2015 when the team was busy shooting for the highly anticipated project on Punjab's history and its heroes in Patiala. The series of short films was produced in collaboration with the Punjab Government and it was basically made to trace the turbulent history of Punjab and feature the lives of Sikh national heroes. Its objective is to inform youngsters about how the present-day Punjab came up and enliven the saga of Independence.
While the film has big names of Bollywood and Punjabi cinema like Divya Dutta, Kuljinder Sidhu, to play key characters, Amritsar lad Sukhbir Singh bagged the role of revolutionary Kartar Singh Saraba and another city actor Arvinder Bhatti will be seen playing the role of Dhanna Singh Babbar, one of the revolutionaries of the Akali Babbar movement.
Benegal’s films dedicate 20 minutes each to the nationalist movements led by Sikh leaders and nationalists. It's a one-of-its-kind initiative and will be like a cinematic encyclopedia on the struggles and sacrifices made by the Sikh heroes of the independence movement, said Bhatti in a statement.
