Jatt and Juliet (J&J) is undoubtedly one of the most loved Punjabi movies. The movie released back in the year 2012 and gave a massive boom to the Punjabi film industry. Starring Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa the movie was produced by Darshan Singh Grewal and Gunbir Singh Sidhu. It was directed by Anurag Singh and was the first Punjabi movie to have a sequel in the industry. Having many awards in its pocket and garnering so much love from the audience, this movie was noticed by Bollywood too. So much so that Bollywood has been eager to make a Hindi remake of the movie ever since.
It has been long that a Hindi remake of this Punjabi movie has been making headlines. The news that the producers Himesh Reshammiya and Rakesh Upadhyay have secured the official remake rights floated in the market in the year 2012 itself. It was the same year when this team had given a rom-com Khiladi 786, and soon the rumors of Akshay Kumar being the lead of the remake of J&J started coming in.
The makers also started confirming about the remake of the movie giving statements like, “At the moment, I wouldn't like to comment on the cast. But yes, Himesh and I are going ahead with two projects. One of them is a thriller and the other is the remake of Jatt & Juliet. The Punjabi film was also produced by Himesh and me. We'll do the remake on a much more lavish scale. But the basic plot of Jatt & Juliet is so endearing it needs no embellishment in Hindi."
Years passed but the remake never started.
The next rumour that hit the market was that Salman Khan developed an interest in this remake. It wasn’t that he wanted to act in the project but he chose it for his brother in law Aayush Sharma. Even this rumor subsided with time and Aayush debuted in Bollywood with Loveyatri.
Very recently, we heard that tv host–actor Manish Paul would be playing the lead role in Jatt and Juliet 2. Now, if the news is to be believed then Manish would be shooting in Bangkok for Jatt and Juliet 2 Hindi remake. This being Manish’s third Bollywood movie, naturally, he is excited about working for this franchise.
Also, a leading daily posted that Jatt and Juliet 2 would be further made in Telugu as Filmmaker Vasu Manthena has acquired its rights, along with those of Sardaar Ji.
The news that Sunny Leone would be teaming up with Manish Paul for the remake, was confirmed but Sunny’s statement about the movie also hinted that it was facing some problems. After shooting a bit of the movie Sunny commented, "I also know as much as you do. I hope we continue with the film and god willing, finish it."
Does that mean the film got shelved?
Let's wait till something concrete actually comes afloat.
