Recently, Netflix announced 10 new original films in association with some of the top-notch production houses of Bollywood. But one that caught our attention was the Punjabi original titled 'Kaali Khuhi'.
The film will be directed by Terrie Samundra and produced by Manomay Motion Pictures.
Black Well in English, Kaali Khuhi is about the ill practice of female infanticide in Punjab. The story revolves around a 10-year-old girl's journey to save a village in Punjab that's reeling from female infanticide.
The story is written by Terrie Samundra and Walter Lech. Kaali Khuhi is produced by Anku Pande and Ramon Chibb.
Terrie took to Twitter to share her excitement about the announcement. She quoted, "Breaking my Twitter fast to drag myself out of the film trenches and share what we're up to. Can't wait to share Kaali Khuhi with ya'll ❤️ Now back to work! "
It will be interesting to see a woman's take on this age-long crime that is still prevailing in many parts of the world, especially in Punjab.
The release will happen in 2020.
