Since the appointment of Charanjit Singh Channi as the new chief minister of Punjab, there have been different reactions from the public. While some liked him, many did not and spoke up about his past. However, some trolls went to the extent of making casteist and rude comments about him.
Yesterday, the Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes took suo motu notice of the alleged casteist remarks against the CM. A suo motu case is basically one where an authority can take action against the blamed party without having a case filed by someone else. The chairperson of the commission, Tejinder Kaur, instructed the Director, Bureau of Investigation, to take action under the relevant section of the Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989. The police have been instructed to take strict action and submit a report by September 29.
The case is against someone on Facebook. As per the commission chairperson, the account owner had posted abusive and casteist remarks about the chief minister of Punjab, which then went viral on social media. Also Read: 5 Facts You Should Know About Afsana Khan!
So the investigation of the case is currently underway and the final response of the authorities will be shared on 29th September, once the report is submitted.
