Noted actress Isha Talwar is all set to make her Punjabi film debut in Shahkot opposite Guru Randhawa. What many might not know is that Isha’s entry into Punjabi cinema echoes a family legacy. Her father, Vinod Talwar, once ventured into Punjabi films as a producer in the 1980s and produced the film Ishq Nimana, which starred Daljit Kaur and Satish Koul.
Vinod Talwar reflects on his early career, saying. “I had assisted on my uncle OP Ralhan’s films. Then I decided to start my own journey with Punjabi films.”
Speaking about Isha’s debut, he shares. “Isha never wanted to get into films. She was good at economics and planned to pursue further education in London. But she always had a passion for dance. Dance director Terence Lewis noticed her and asked her to join his troupe. That led to her first ad, and from there, she took acting seriously. After some ads, she got a break in Malayalam cinema, and her debut film was a big hit. She quickly made her mark in South Indian films, then in Hindi cinema with roles in Article 15, Sharmaji Namkeen, and the show Mirzapur.”
At home, Vinod often spoke in Punjabi, which sparked Isha’s desire to work in the Punjabi film industry. Shahkot fulfills this dream, and Vinod couldn’t be prouder, especially with the involvement of Raj Babbar, an old friend with whom Vinod had planned a film years ago.
Reflecting on the project, Vinod says, “It’s like life has come full circle for us. Raj and I have been friends since those days, and now he is also part of Shahkot. We visited Isha on set in Kashmir, where she was shooting with Guru Randhawa, who greeted us warmly.”
“Isha’s debuts in various film industries have all been successful, and I hope this film does well too,” he says before signing off.
With Shahkot, Isha Talwar is not just continuing a family tradition but also embracing her Punjabi roots, making her debut in the regional industry a meaningful milestone in her career.
