Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh have yet again made the entire nation proud after securing India’s second medal at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, earning a bronze in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event. This marks India’s second shooting medal of the ongoing Paris Games, following Manu’s bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event.
This marks Sarabjot’s first Olympic medal. Manu, meanwhile, became the first Indian to win multiple medals at a single Olympic Games, having already opened India’s account at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event
Both the shooters were presented with the medals. Additionally, a box was also handed over to them thar measures around 40 centimetres. It contains an official poster for the event. The winners also receive a gold, silver or bronze medal-winning mascot. The mascot of the Paris Games is called Phryges. The name and shape of the mascots are based on the traditional small phrygian hats. It serves as a symbol of freedom. The mascot is inspired by the French flag colours of blue, white and red.
Sarabjot hails from Dheen village of Ambala in Haryana and is the son of a farmer, Jatinder Singh, and a homemaker, Hardeep Kaur. He completed his studies from DAV College in Chandigarh and trained under coach Abhishek Rana. Sarabjot’s introduction to shooting happened during his childhood days when he saw a few kids wielding air guns at a makeshift range during the summer camp.
