The mother of Kargil war hero captain Vikram Batra, Kamal Kant Batra has passed away. She was 77. According to reports, she was breathed her last at Palampur in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district on Wednesday.
Speaking to a leading daily, her husband, GL Batra, said she had experienced some chest and back pain the previous night but had taken some medicine for gastric relief. “She had no history of cardiac ailments. She felt some relief after taking medicine at night and this morning too she took another medicine and said she felt better. However, even as we were contemplating visiting the hospital for a check—up, she passed away at around 1 PM this afternoon,” he said.
Born in a Punjabi family, her son, Captain Vikram Batra – known as ‘Sher Shah’ had martyred at the age of 24 fighting the Pakistani forces during the Kargil war on July 7, 1999. His courageous actions earned him the highest wartime gallantry award ‘Param Vir Chakra’.
