Shakti Kapoor, at the very initial phase of his career had worked as the lead hero in a Punjabi film. The revelation came from the man himself during a recent interview.
Recently, Shakti Kapoor revealed on a show that at the initial stage of his career, he decided to turn Hero and stopped accepting negative roles.
One of his first attempts at being the lead hero was in a film called ‘Zakhmee Insaan’ (1982) opposite Rama Vij. Both were dating at that time. But the debacle of the film put a question mark to his chance of being the lead actor. Shakti jokingly said, “Zakhmee Insaan ke baad Producer Zakhmee ho gaya.”
Zakhmee Insaan was not the only film he had signed as a lead hero. There was even a Punjabi Film called Chhade Malang which he signed as the lead face.
Producer Narinder Goel’s film Chhade Malang had Shakti Kapoor and Rama Vij as the lead pair.
Pinchoo Kapoor, Mehar Mittal, Kanchan Mattu, Mohan Choti and others were signed for other main characters. The film was extensively shot in Ludhiana, Punjab.
Chhade Malang was to mark Shakti Kapoor’s debut in Punjabi films.
During that time, the couple’s relationship came to an end due to Shakti’s flamboyant nature, whereas, Rama had rejected many big films opposite other actors as Shakti insisted that she only works with him.
Chhade Malang suffered due their relationship’s fate.
Shakti Kapoor went back to negative roles and got married to Shivangi Kolhapure (Padmini Kolhapure’s sister), while Rama continued to work in Punjabi, Hindi and other regional films and on TV.
The producer Narinder Goel did not produce any other film after that. He started assisting on Hindi films. The director of Chhade Malang, Surinder Sinha went on to direct video films.
