Veteran film producer and director Mohan Bhakri passed away. He was ailing for some time and passed away on 18 March.
Bhakhri Family has been associated with Hindi Punjabi Film Industry ever since independence. Mulkraj Bhakhri and Lekhraj Bhakri were the pioneer in establishing Punjabi Cinema in the period of 50s and 60s. Later on, their sons joined in the film business. Mohan Bhakhri made his debut as director with Punjabi film Jatti (1981), which was a runaway hit.
He then went on to make Do Madari, Vohti Hath Soti, Jatt Da Gandasa, Jeeja Sali, Maula Jatt. At the same time he was also in the Hindi Films. Since Horror genre had its audience and was the safest bet, he directed some Horror films like Cheekh, Kabarstan, Khooni Mahal, Roohani Taqat etc, out of which Kabrastan was major success.
Among Punjabi Films, his last directorial was 1993 release Saali Adhi Gharwali. He had also directed few punjabi series for private channel including Nonsense Unlimited featuring current CM of Punjab Bhagwant Mann.
